Irony

Nanny: My mum wants to come and see Pob. She's very excited.

Me: [puzzled look]

Nanny: Yes, she'll be uncontrollable when [boyfriend] and I have kids

Me: [non committal grunt]

Nanny: Of course it won't be easy for us. We will need treatment to get pregnant

Me: [enquiring grunt]

Nanny: Yes, I have polycystic ovaries and [boyfriend] has low sperm count

Me thinking: Blimey, I managed to hire the infertile nanny. Who knew?

That is some coincidence!

I'm sorry, but I can't imagine you grunting, EVER! Chuckle

And yes, that is ironic.

Oy. Irony. Poor nanny.

Did you really grunt, or did you go 'hrrmm?' like my Mum does? She calls it her grunt, but to me it always sounds like a very lady-like horse deciding not to neigh after all.

Oh my word did I just (inadvertently) compare you to a HORSE? I am so sorry. I am absolutely Not Myself these days.

Well, what a surprise.
If she's aware of their issues, does that mean she's been trying and failing?

I wouldn't want to be a nanny and face infertility. Or a midwife, a pediatrician, ...

Poor nanny. That's a sad profession for an infertile to be in.

Wow, if the nanny were me, I would have found a different profession. What a brave woman!

Poor Nanny,

That's a real tough line of work to be in if you're infertile...

J

Wow. Well, perhaps nanny might find hope in your story. Bless her...

She sounded pretty good natured about it (in your description anyway)... and yes, intriguing occupation for someone whose been smacked with the IF spoon.

Loved your rant Thalia. Apart from everything else it was unfailingly polite and fair.

Your response should have been:

"Oh really? We thought we needed treatment but look, we just went on holiday and relaxed and look!"

(Recurrent-miscarrier child development researcher here - you start working with kids once you realise you like them - then you realise you want them - THEN you realise you can't have them).

Well, what a surprise.

Poor nanny.

The irony strikes hard though.. isn't that always the way?

Poor nanny. Does she know about your history?

That's frickin' hilarious.
